Mostly When
2024

The last 15 years of smartphone technology brought unprecedented change to the world of photography. In a similar way that the rangefinder camera democratized the photograph in the early 20th Century, the smartphone put easily-disseminated digital photography in the hands of anyone with a phone. Like the rangefinder before it, this technological advance presented new opportunities and new problems.

On the backdrop of the increasing sophistication of smartphone-created digital images, I began making photographs that responded to some of the problems and opportunities that I saw in this new branch of the photographic medium. This small, smartphone-sized book is the result of nearly a decade of that practice.
